Hello, lovers of good African recipes! Welcome back to our blog. Today, let me ask you a question: Do you love eating meat pie? If your answer is yes, today will be an amazing day! We will learn new ways to make the perfect meat pie.

Ingredients Needed

To make our cooking process easy, we need the following ingredients:

Meat
Onions
Coconut cooking oil
Salt
Natural spice mix
Beef seasoning
Corn starch
All-purpose flour
Milk powder
Unsalted butter
Ice water
Spring onions

Step-by-step cooking instructions for the meat filling

We are going to create a delicious, authentic Ghanaian meat pie. Let’s start by chopping the meat into pieces on a clean chopping board. However, if you prefer, you can grind it instead. After that, carefully chop some onions and set them aside in a clean bowl.

Next, we begin our cooking process to make a meat pie with an aroma that stands out. First, place a pan on the fire and add your choice of oil. Today, I’ll use coconut oil. Then, add the chopped onions along with a pinch of salt to enhance their sweetness. Stir and fry the onions for about four to seven minutes before adding the chopped meat.

Seasoning Our Meat

Season the meat using a natural spice mix. I prefer Sankofa natural spices but feel free to use any brand you like. Additionally, sprinkle in the beef seasoning and salt to taste. Be careful not to over-season; we want the meat pie to have a natural flavor. Stir everything and allow it to cook for about 10 to 15 minutes. Afterward, add some water to help the meat cook through.

Once 10 to 15 minutes have passed, add water and cover the pan to let it cook for another 5 minutes. To keep the filling creamy, mix some cornstarch with water and add it to the meat mixture. Stir for about 5 more minutes until you achieve your desired consistency. After cooking, turn off the fire and set the meat aside to cool.

Making Of Our Pie Crust

Now, let’s make the pie crust. For this, we will need all-purpose flour, milk powder, unsalted butter, and ice water. In a bowl, mix these ingredients together. Use your hands to combine the butter with the flour and milk powder until it mixes smoothly. Then, sprinkle some icy water on top and mix until it forms a dough. Wrap it in a clean plastic wrap and press it firmly to shape it well.

Next, chop some spring onions and red onions into small pieces. Add them to the meat mixture and stir to combine. After that, take the pie crust from the plastic wrap and slice it into 10 to 12 pieces. On a floured chopping board, use a rolling pin to flatten each piece into a round shape. Use a round plate to cut them into perfect circles, repeating this with all the slices.

Detailed Process Of Assembling Our Pie

Now, take a clean, small brush, dip it in oil, and brush it over a slice of the round crust. Add two teaspoons of the cooked meat mixture in the center. Then, fold the crust over to create a rectangular shape. Press down with a fork around the edges to seal it creatively. Repeat this process for all the remaining pie crust slices.

Finally, we will add an egg and milk wash to the pies. Use a brush to paint the mixture over each pie. Bake them in an oven at 350°F for about 30 to 40 minutes.
