Learn How To Make Yokogari Here
Have you ever tried a popular street food in Ghana called Yokogari or Gob3? If not, you’re missing out on a tasty meal that is good for your body! It’s rich in protein and potassium, which helps us grow strong and healthy.
You can use different types of beans to make delicious Gob3 or Yokogari. My family likes to use Bambara beans and pinto beans, but you can choose any beans you prefer to make this yummy dish for your family.
In this cooking guide, we will show you how to make your Gob3 taste like the delicious ones you find at roadside stalls or food joints.
To properly cook Yokogari or Gob3, we will need the following ingredients.
3 cups of Beans
salt
water
gari
sugar
ripe plantain
palm oil
onions
pepper
anchovies
stock cube
First, I have 3 cups of beans. Rinse the beans and soak them in water for about 40 minutes. This will help the bad beans float to the top of the water, and I will remove them before I start cooking.
I will drain the water and add hot water to the beans, then cook them on the stove for an hour. Remember, adding a lot of salt to the beans before cooking can make them take longer to cook.
After cooking our beans for an hour, it’s time to turn off the stove. You can lift the lid of the pot and see how soft the beans are.
To make them even softer, I will use a wooden spoon to mash the beans, just like the ones you find sold on the side of the road. After that, we’ll get ready to prepare our Yokogari.
We are going to make our own Yokogari stand-up. To do this, we will chop some onions and get some habanero pepper, anchovies, or kobi. We will also need a stock cube. First, let’s heat some palm oil in a cooking pot on the stove.
We will use a wooden spoon to mix everything. Then, we will add the onions, pepper, and anchovies. After that, we will add the stock cube and fry everything together until the onions are a little brown.
First, we will add our stock cube for flavor. Next, we will put in the beans and add some salt to make it taste good. We will stir everything on the fire for about fifteen minutes.
Finally, we will add a teaspoon of ITSP Sugar to give the Yokogari beans a special taste. We will let it cook for about ten more minutes to make sure all the flavors mix well together. This will help bring out the good taste we want.
Now it’s time to enjoy our Yokogari with loved ones. First, make sure to fly some ripe plantains. Once the plantains are nicely fried, take some of the cooked beans and put them on a plate.
Add about three teaspoons of gari and mix everything well. Next, place the fried plantains on top and sprinkle in one more teaspoon of gari.
Serve it hot and enjoy it with family and friends. That’s it! Now you see how easy it is to make Yokogari or Gob3 by yourself.
